STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE: HOW TO BID & BUY
The complete playbook for new bidders. Read this before you bid.
1. Registration & Account Security
All bidding takes place on our HiBid platform. To participate, you must create a bidder account. We take security seriously to protect the integrity of the auction.
The Golden Rule: Your details must match.
- Legal Name: Must match your government-issued ID
- Credit Card: Must match the registered bidder’s name
- Billing / Shipping: Should align or be clearly explained
New accounts undergo stricter validation. Once you complete multiple auctions and build a history, your account is treated with less friction.
2. Understanding the Catalogue (Read Before Bidding)
We process truckloads weekly and prioritize speed and volume. Here is how to correctly read our listings:
- The Description: Specifications are often pulled automatically using UPCs. Minor differences in color or packaging may occur.
- The Real Photos: Always scroll to the end of the gallery. Staff photos show the actual item, box condition, and visible damage.
- The Condition Grade:
- Grade A / B – Covered by our 24-hour warranty
- Grade C / D – Sold strictly AS-IS
Important
If you skip the real photos or condition notes, you are bidding at your own risk.
3. Bidding & the “Soft Close”
Auctions close every Wednesday at 7:00 PM ET. We use a Soft Close (Popcorn Bidding) system.
- If a bid is placed in the final 60 seconds, the timer resets to 60 seconds
- This prevents sniping and ensures the true highest bidder wins
4. Payment & “Notes to Auctioneer”
- Standard Payment: Your credit card on file is charged automatically after the auction closes.
- Cash / e-Transfer: Must be disclosed in the “Notes to Auctioneer” box during registration.
- If you notify us after the auction closes, it is too late.
For security, high-value invoices may require in-person payment with ID, even if a card is on file.
5. Shipping Requests
If you need shipping, you must check the “Shipping Requested” box during registration.
- We ship across Canada and the USA using Shipping Saint
- Rates are calculated after the auction based on size, weight, and destination
- Shipping must be paid in full before release
Risk Control
If billing and shipping details do not align, your account may be flagged or restricted.
6. Pickup & Strict Deadlines
After payment, you will receive an email or SMS from Shipping Saint to book your pickup slot.
- Appointments only – No walk-ins
- Bring government-issued ID and your Bid Card number
- New bidders may have ID copied for security purposes
No-Nonsense Policy
Items are never stored past the pickup week.
- Unpaid or uncollected items are abandoned
- Abandoned items are forfeited without refund
- Your account will be permanently banned
- Your global HiBid score will be negatively impacted
7. Final Advice
